Geoscience and innovation: BRGM Carnot Institute,

a privileged partner for businesses

Research with businesses:

a simple and flexible approach

A company looking to engage in a research

partnership (research under contract or

collaborative partnership) contacts the BRGM

Scientific and Technical Centre in Orleans or

one of the BRGM’s regional divisions.
A contract or agreement then sets out the

rules governing costs, confidentiality and

industrial property. The company may be

entitled to a tax credit for research (CIR

scheme).
Once the contract is signed, the company

will be able to use all human resources

and materials required for the project

(databases, ICTs, laboratories, pilot

installations, etc.) without needing to

recruit staff or make large investments.

Multi-disciplinary research

and development

The BRGM Carnot Institute covers a broad

spectrum of demands involving soils and

subsoils:

 subsoil resources: minerals, water and

geothermal energy,

subsoil uses: for materials and energy

storage and as an optimal environment for

developing and safeguarding supply and

communications networks,

 risk prevention and precautionary

environmental management,

 integrated data processing

(interoperability).

BRGM, the French geological survey

The BRGM Carnot Institute implements partnership-based

research with industrial sectors and companies of every size.

The aim is to deliver innovative management solutions

in different areas, including soils and subsoils,

raw materials, water resources or the prevention of natural

and environmental risks.

The economic sectors directly concerned include

construction, energy, water, mineral industries,

environmental services and eco-technologies.

Example of a technological platform: the MEB-RAMAN platform serving the BRGM laboratories in Orleans.
