Multidisciplinary teams with
advanced scientific and
technological facilities
The CSTB Carnot institute comprises all
those CSTB teams involved in R&D and
the promotion of research results. It
fosters and facilitates innovation for all
construction sector stakeholders through
the use of the laboratories and extensive
research facilities of the CSTB:
ARIA - Scientific facility studying the
health aspects of the products and
equipment used in construction and
structures.
LABE - European Laboratory of
Building Acoustics.
VULCAIN - Scientific facility studying
the fire resistance of innovative structures.
AQUASIM - center for the full-scale
research and testing of solutions for
sustainable water resource management
within an integrated building/plot/
environment system.
Jules Verne climate wind tunnel
arge-scale atmospheric and climatic wind
tunnel capable of physical climate
simulation.
Locations: Marne-la-Vallée, Paris,
Grenoble, Nantes and Sophia-Antipolis.
A dynamic approach to partnersh
At regional level, the CSTB Carnot institute is a
member of the ‘Paris-Est pour une Ville Durable’
and ‘Rhône-Alpes Mobilité Durable’ science and
technology clusters, the ADVANCITY
competitiveness clusters (founder member), and
the increasingly networked regional clusters, such
as the Alsace Énergivie Cluster.
Nationally, the CSTB Carnot institute is a
member of the Alliance Nationale de Coordination
de la Recherche en Énergie (ANCRE), within which
it leads and coordinates Program Group 7 on
Construction. The CSTB Carnot institute
contributes to around 50 research projects every
year. Other partnerships include the scientific and
technical network (IGN, IFSTTAR, etc.), the
Industrial Technical Centers, construction industry
federations and the other Carnot institutes. At
European level, it contributes to some 30 EU
projects, including around 5 new partnership
projects commenced during the year.
Internationally outside Europe, excellence
partnerships are in place with international
counterparts, such as the NIST in the USA, BCJ
and others in Japan, and the University of Moscow.
