New environmental and societal challenges are emerging that are forcing businesses from the sector to make radical changes.

OHMIC HEATING
Over the past few years, CTCPA, an agri-food technical hub, has developed strong expertise in ohmic heating. This technology is used to sterilise or pasteurise products – with or without particulates, acids or alkalis – packaged after processing.
PHE-B
New high-throughput phenotyping technology out in the field paves the way for characterising large volumes of crops. These techniques help to improve the ability of cash crops – particularly high-growing crops – to withstand stress.
BCGrape
France is gearing up to accelerate the construction and development of sustainable agricultural systems and equipment. For vines, developing bio-inputs involves a major R&D effort. To meet this demand and develop partnerships with businesses from the sector, Carnot Plant2Pro® Institute (INRAE and IFV) has created a unique platform.
BIRDe
Moving poultry farming towards more agro-ecological methods is contingent on improving poultry feed efficiency. To continuously measure the individual weight and feed consumption of free-range chickens raised in groups, an electronic feeder has been developed by several entities belonging to the Carnot France Futur Elevage Institute.
XTRALYZ®
An application together with test protocols for rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria for the food industry and other sectors such as water and the environment, have been developed within the framework of the Direct project carried out by the Carnot CEA Leti DTBS unit (Department of Biology and Healthcare Technologies).
SNAC
Methanisation is a virtuous process for treating organic waste and the production of energy, however it is highly sensitive to the presence of ammonia and volatile fatty acids. Purification, and indeed economic efficiency, is closely linked to dynamic management of these compounds. No satisfactory solution was previously available for monitoring under actual production conditions.
MONDIN
Animal leather is currently subject to a lot of debate over the health risks caused by the use of chromium III in the tanning processes and consumer demand for more sustainable and respectful solutions (ethical activism, veganism, etc.). Consequently, alternatives have recently emerged in the form of plant-based leathers (made from pineapple, mushroom, rubber, tea, algae, apple, grape).
Loss of vitamins from fruit and vegetables
Fruit and vegetables are a crucial source of vitamins, however several factors may affect the vitamin content of the fruit and vegetables we consume. Biological changes of a physiological, genetic, agronomic or environmental nature, together with any processing and/or preservation processes used, will have a determining impact on the nutritional quality of products consumed.
FROILOC
FROILOC is a project that integrates ultra-clean cold filling for food production lines. The objective is to offer manufacturers solutions that guarantee food safety, provide enhanced conditions for operators and save on energy.
